What we do
We welcome you to the official HODSAS website, to strengthen the power of rights in health and protection of key populations

ADVOCACY
Our work focuses on strengthening advocacy—through leadership training, communication, and the sharing of arguments with decision-makers—to improve Congolese legislation and case law regarding access to healthcare and the protection of key populations across the entire Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Mobilization
In order to build and promote a Congolese society without discrimination based on sex, gender, race and ethnicity, we train and raise awareness among leaders, adolescents and young people; let us raise awareness and build loyalty to make Congolese society more resilient in the face of the major challenges of the social acceptance of others in our societies and socio-cultural constraints.

DOCUMENTATION
TO STRENGTHEN AWARENESS ACTIONS, LAW POPULARIZATION, TRAINING FOR RIGHTS AND HEALTH PROVIDERS; BUT ALSO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF ADVOCACY ACTIONS, FOR LACK OF EVIDENCE, HODSAS DOCUMENTS, ORGANIZES RESEARCH AND SETUP PARALLEL REPORTS THROUGH THE DOCUMENTATION OF THE CHALLENGES, STRATEGIES AND ESPECIALLY THE STORIES EXPERIENCED BY THE COMMUNITY IN GENERAL AND KEY POPULATIONS IN PARTICULAR IN OUR COMMUNITY.

CAPACITY BUILDING
Strengthening community capacity constitutes one of the key actions of HODSAS, in all areas of health (HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Malaria, Covid and Ebola), prevention, care and psychosocial support; In the field of protection (the laws of the republic, obligations and duties, civics, but also activism) and the fight against the criminalization of HIV; In the area of advocacy; And in the field of documentation and research of key populations.
WHAT WE DO
We are a civil society organization with our national representative office in Bukavu and a presence in Kinshasa since 2012, specializing in promoting the right to health and the protection of vulnerable populations in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. We contribute to national civil society efforts through various strategies and collaborations across multiple areas—such as fostering pride, autonomy, and bodily integrity; raising awareness among health and rights providers regarding the criminalization of HIV; contributing to the national HIV/AIDS strategic plan; participating in the 7th Replenishment of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; and amplifying the voices of the voiceless on various platforms and at conferences (ICASA, AIDS Conference, HIVR4P, CFCS, AFRAVIH)—to ensure the realization of acceptance of diversity, inclusion, and well-being within our at-risk communities.

WHY HODSAS?
We are an NGO based in Bukavu, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, working for the human rights of sexual minorities in Africa. Our actions cover many areas related to diversity, inclusion, and the well-being of vulnerable communities, notably: Power of Pride, Sex Worker Academy Africa, the National Strategic Plan for HIV/AIDS, and the 7th replenishment of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
